Co Kerry - An Introduction

Co Kerry is situated in the very south west of Ireland in the province of Munster. Known as The Kingdom,?the county is one of the most beautiful in the whole of Ireland. Kerry has many attractions that bring about visitors from all over the world. Killarney and Tralee are the two main towns of the county, but other smaller towns are in almost endless supply.

Although Tralee is the capital of the county, most visitors are attracted to Killarney as their town of choice. Killarney is a beautiful and lively town situated within easy reach of some of the most beautiful landscape in Ireland including The Killarney Lakes and Muckross House. The lakes of Killarney consist of three lakes set in a mountain valley and are surrounded by panoramic views and untouched landscapes. Muckross House, which is another major attraction, is situated to the south of Killarney and on one of the Lakes that forms the Killarney Lakes. Muckross House was built in 1843 in the Tudor style and is surrounded by woods, lakes and many beautiful gardens.

Tralee is a worthwhile stop off during any journey through County Kerry with many attractions aimed at tourists. Without doubt the Rose of Tralee is the biggest festival, and is held annually during August when contestants from all over the world with Irish heritage gather to try and win the coveted Rose of Tralee prize. Tralee is a busy town with some excellent shopping and eating facilities, but doesnt have the same holiday characteristic to it that made Killarney famous.

The third town in Kerry and perhaps the jewel in the crown is the town of Dingle. Dingle is set on the Dingle Peninsula and offers a fantastic Irish experience set against stunning and rugged natural scenery. The town of Dingle is famous for quality sea food which is caught during the day by the fishermen and cooked by night in the restaurants.
